Experience an evening of experimental audio fusion, featuring world music and dance at the hub of international culture, organised by MuHa and hosted by Nottingham’s New Art Exchange.
Apsara brings together East Midlands artists that work in world / roots creative fields be it contemporary fusion music, traditional dance or cross- cultural art and related media.
Through a series of events Apsara aims to develop the East Midlands World Music Forum a community of musicians, artists and performers to provide a platform for cross- cultural collaborations; to promote New Roots /World music and art; to enrich local communities by being a catalyst for and celebration of cultural hybridity. If you are an artist or promoter and would like to get involved- come over and say hello on the evening or just contact us.
Apsara’s first event will take place at the New Art Exchange on April 24th 2010, Nottingham, will feature a program of eclectic performers from Stamford, Leicester and Nottingham; is organised by MuHa and supported by the New Art Exchange and Chilled Produce.

MuHa is releasing their debut album TARAS in July 2010 which is expected to receive a warm welcome from local world music lovers.
The Manushi Dance is a Nottingham based organisation that promotes South Asian Dance and in particular the Indian Classical dance form of Kathak.
It is lead by Kenyan born artistic director/ choreographer Vina Ladwa with more then 20 years of dance and tutoring experience. Manushi annually presents a major theatre performance at the best venues across the East Midlands. This year they tell a story of Taj Mahal at the Lake Side Arts Centre.

Out of Karma's music is a fiery fusion of Rock, Dub, Funk, wrapped up in an Indian Vibe that gives it a heavy unique sound.
Out of Karma is a way of life, the songs speak of love, revolution, the conservations of war, freedom, and God. The singer/ songwriter Joseph Macwan sings with an amazing vocal style, that will pierce you and then wrap you up in velvet ! The following of this Leicester band is growing, attracting a solid following from New Zealand to Trinidad.

Paspartou is a group of multi-instrumentalists from Stamford - the finest stone town in England. The play an eclectic mix of roots music utilising string percussion and wind instruments. The performance will include original arrangements of Irish and East European folk tunes.

Sura - as most kora players, Sura was brought up in a family of griot musicians learning kora and a range of percussions instruments at a very early age. He moved to the UK at the age of 17 to tour the world with his brother’s band the Seckou Keita Quintet. Since 2004 he has performed more than 500 times in 25 countries. This experience has allowed him to discover and meet other exceptional musicians and artists.
This incredible journey as well as his virtuoso skills on the kora have opened up his musical horizons. The result will be fed in his debut album to be released in October 2010

The evening will also be featuring world music DJs James Kelly (Leicester) and African influenced Ya Kil ( Nottingham)
